The Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City and District of St Albans opened Energy Saving Homes with a visit to 105 Sopwell Lane and said:

‘We all want to improve energy efficiency in our homes but we might not know how, and often cannot afford to install expensive solutions.  This weekend is a great way for residents to get some excellent practical ideas.  Well done Transition St Albans.’

Energy Saving Open Homes did it again for 2013!

The project involves people who have adopted energy saving measures opening their homes at agreed times during the weekend of 14 / 15 September to others wanting to learn about making their homes more energy efficient. This year, 6 householders will be taking part and between them they have taken a diverse range of approaches to energy efficiency. These measures include, floor insulation, energy efficient boilers, cavity wall insulation, low flush toilets, LED lighting, solar PV and solar thermal.

Our experience is that before people start making changes in their homes they want to find out more about the issues involved – benefits and drawbacks, time and expense involved, other do’s and don’ts – from people who have been there first. People who visited the householders who participated in 2012 found this aspect of the project really helpful.
