The Home Grown Food Group have started running this year’s Open Food Garden Programme and the first event in May was in the small, award winning garden at Gresford Close with a busy Sunday and dozens of visitors. We thought we would share some of the photos from the day with you….
This is the time of year to have a go at planting your own fruit and veg: whether you have a window-sill, patio or garden space there’s always a way to start growing food. And it’s addictive! Once you see your first lettuce start to take shape, that basil plant take off in its pot, or the broad bean flowers beginning to turn miraculously into a bean pod…it gets to you.
If you fancy seeing how other gardeners do it, the next Open Food Garden is on Sat 6th June at 13 Abbey View Road, and you can drop-in anytime from 3-5pm. This was a very popular garden last year, with a fabulous view! Get design ideas for your veg patch or see if anyone else conserves water in the garden as well as you do! It makes a great afternoon out; come on your own, or bring a friend. The events are very informal, with the opportunity to talk to the gardeners if you want to discover how they do it, or share your own thoughts on positive food gardening with the other visitors. Or if you prefer, you can wander around and have a reflective afternoon!
