Pam Warhurst: Edible Landscape

What should a community do with its unused land? Plant food, of course. With energy and humor, Pam Warhurst tells at the TEDSalon the story of how she and a growing team of volunteers came together to turn plots of unused land into communal vegetable gardens, and to change the narrative of food in their community.

A Farm for the Future

This honest, personal and inspiring film follows farmer Rebecca Hosking as she seeks to get her farm ready for peak oil. It includes explanations of peak oil and permaculture, and features interviews with a whole series of extraordinary people. It was shown on the BBC in March as part of their Natural World series.

The Power of Community
In the early 1990s, the collapse of the Soviet Union sent the Cuban economy into crisis. Most importantly, it’s oil imports halved, and over the next few years Cuba learned to be independent. Cuba provides us with the only example of a country that has already lived through the shock of peak oil. They survived, and we can too.

  1. I thought ‘A Farm for the Future’ was inspiring. I would like to know where Rebecca Hoskins references and data came from. A film of this kind does not have foot notes as a well-researched book does.

  2. I posted a load of links to all the people in the film here: http://makewealthhistory.org/2009/03/11/a-farm-for-the-future/
