The Education Group is currently dormant. We held two successful events. Firstly an open session for teachers called “How Does Your Garden Grow?” on how to start and maintain a school food garden, and how to link the garden directly to the curriculum. Then we ran a session for pupils and teachers at the training day for St Albans Schools Sustainable Ambassadors. These Ambassadors are pupils from primary schools throughout the district who go back to their schools and run small projects to help the environment.
The TSA Education group became dormant because we realised a huge amount of good work is already happening in schools, particularly through the national Eco Schools awards and the local Sustainable Ambassadors programme.
If anyone is interested in reinvigorating the group, we’d love to hear from you! We think there is still much to be done in engaging children more outside of the school content. If you’re interested, get in touch.

Hello, my name is Emma Collins, I am a fully qualified teacher and until recently I was working in a private International School in Southern Spain. I was very involved with alternative and sustainable living, both food production, energy needs, alternative health but especially education…for both children, families and adults, learning about the need for sustainable living beginning in the home, what sustainable living means and also how to start achieving it. I was very fortunate to know a very large community of knowledgable and committed people who ran courses, magazines and alternative centres, for many years this has been the core of my life. Unfortunately after being diagnosed with serious illness I needed to return to the UK, as I am a single mother I needed my two teenage children to be near my mother who lives in Redbourn, in order that their future was secure. I am therefore new to the area, desperate to find us a home and to start participating in our local community hence joining the group today. I have received very good news with regards to my prognosis and therefore I am ready to start building my future with regards to community and friendships. I was very involved in the transition town movement in Spain and it is exciting to know that St Albans is also a transition town, it is a fabulous movement and having gone to school with Rob Hopkins I know that his intention is a good and true one. Due to this I will actively look for property to rent in this area, I am keen to help, I would like to attend any meetings and would be very grateful if you inform me of events in order that I can offer my support. Many Thanks Emma Collins
Hello Emma, and thanks for getting in touch. We would love you to get involved! It sounds like you have a lot to add. Have a look at our ‘events’ page for upcoming meetings; there is a food event this Saturday afternoon (13th) and an energy event next Wednesday evening (17th). Hope to see you there – Catherine & the rest of the TSA Steering Group
You should take part in a contest for one of the best sites on the net.
I’m going to highly recommend this blog!
