Sat-Sun 18-19th April:  Permaculture Introduction course (*), 10am – 5.30pm at Tottenham Marshes, Waterside Centre, Stonebridge Lock, N17 0XD. Course organised by Naturewise in collaboration with Friends of Tottenham Marshes. Three members of the Steering Group (Kathryn, Jeremy and Peter) attended.

Fri 1st May:  First “formal” Steering Group meeting.

Wed 6th May:  First Social – 7.30pm, Ye Old Fighting Cocks pub.

Sat 16th May:  Film by St Albans Green Party – The Age of Stupid – Sandpit Theatre. Green Party kindly allowed TSA to have a stand (first outing as TSA) and hand out leaflets to promote our upcoming first event, showing the film the Power of Community film on June 2nd.

Fri-Sun 22-24 May:  Transition Conference 2009 at the Battersea Arts Centre (BAC) in London. Attended by three members of the Steering Group (Jacqueline, Jeremy and Peter), and one more SG member (Kathryn) joined for the public event on Saturday evening.

Tue 2nd June:  Film (our first own event!) – The Power of Community – 8pm, Trinity Church Hall

Wed 23rd Sep:  Film – Earth Whisperers Papatuanuku – 7.30pm, Trinity Church Hall

Sat 26th Sep:  Herts Hike fundraising walk organised by Oxfam (*) – TSA man one of the checkpoints.

OCTOBER

Tue 6th Oct:  Launch of St Albans Green Drinks – 8pm, Farmers Boy pub at 134 London Road.

Sun 11th Oct:  Farmers’ Market – TSA has a stall.

Tue 13th Oct:  Film – In Transition – 7.30pm, The Maltings Arts Theatre

Tue 13th Oct:  Hard Rain documentary presentation at Herts Uni, De Havilland Campus, Hatfield (*)

Sat-Sun 17-18th Oct:  TSA hosts Transition Training course at Fleetville Infant & Nursery School. Attended by 19 people including all 6 members of the TSA Steering Group (Jacqueline, Kathryn, Jeremy, Jack, Richard and Peter).

Wed 21st Oct:  Open Meeting – 7.30pm at Fleetville Community Centre

Sat 24th Oct:  Class – Fungi Foray by Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust (*) – 10am to 1pm, Northaw Great Wood. Cost is £15 per person and we have 8 tickets. Please contact richard.watson@transitionstalbans.org to reserve a ticket. No under 12s unfortunately. We wil organise a lift share nearer the time.

Sat 31st Oct:  RSA East of England meeting – It’s All Happening in St Albans – 10.30am, Old Town Hall. TSA was invited to contribute a talk which Rick skillfully delivered. The title of his piece: ”How can St Albans prepare itself for peak oil and a changing climate?” Jodi recorded it on video and you can watch it here.

NOVEMBER

Tue 3rd Nov:  Talk & interactive discussion led by Tim, Peter B and Richard – The sustainability of our food supply – 7.30pm, Trinity Church Hall

Wed 18th Nov:  Open Meeting – 7.30pm, Fleetville Community Centre

Tue 24th Nov:  Film – The Power of Community – 7.30pm, Trinity Church Hall

Sat 28th Nov:  Open Space event – How could St Albans source more food locally in the future – 10.30am until 2.30pm, Marlborough  Road Methodist Church. Open to all and no food growing experience or special skills needed. A basic lunch will be provided but please bring some food to share. Tickets £4  (concessions £3) — EVENT CANCELLED.

DECEMBER

Tue 1st Dec:  Public meeting (*) – Climate Change Awareness & The Copenhagen Climate Summit  – 7.30pm, Trinity Church Hall (Lower Hall)  Supporters of the Stop Climate Chaos coalition in St Albans are organising a public meeting to promote The Wave in London (see 5th Dec below) and to discuss the forthcoming UN climate summit in Copenhagen.  The meeting will include speakers from a variety of organisations, including Friends of the Earth, WDM, Oxfam, SWP and others.

Wed 2nd Dec:  St Albans Cycle Campaign (STACC)  (*) public meeting including a talk “Moving around in a saner world – Local initiatives to reduce car dependency” by Stephen Joseph, the Executive Director of Campaign for Better Transport (formerly Transport 2000) and a resident of St Albans – 7.30pm, St Albans Council Offices aka the Civic Centre (next to the Alban Arena).

Sat 5th Dec:  National climate change demo in London (*) – The Wave – Ahead of the crucial UN climate summit in Copenhagen, tens of thousands of people from all walks of life will march through the streets of London to demonstrate their support for a safe climate future for all. People from St Albans will be attending too, and many of us have decided to travel to London together on the 10.42 train from St. Albans City station. Feel free to join us. Tue 8th Dec:  Social – St Albans Green Drinks – 8pm, Farmers Boy pub, 134 London Road. See greendrinks.org for more information. As December is often a month with too many commitments, we’ve decided NOT to have an Open Meeting in December (would have been 16th). Instead, we’ve decided to focus on the social!  An opportunity to celebrate what we’ve achieved this year, look forward to next year and enjoy each other’s company over a drink!

  1. Good to see you at SA Car Free Day 22/9/09. I see that you didn’t put it on your ‘event’ page – due, no doubt, to the short notice given by SADC. Anyway, I thought it was a modest success and knocks in the first peg on which to build a better event next year.
