Hi Kieran,

Thank you for highlighting that initiative; To my knowledge we do not have a re-fill scheme in operation; it does look like a good idea. I will look into it.

Are you involved with the Hemel re-fill scheme?

Dear Transitioners

Christmas Green Drinks

Please come and join us at the Steam Coach, Boxmoor, at 7.30pm on Tuesday 13th December for our last Green Drinks of the year. We'll be talking about ideas for extending our activities in 2012 - all welcome.

News of Hemel in Transition Re-fill Scheme

Do you find it hard to reconcile the quest to live more “lightly” on the earth with the need to keep a clean home? HiT may be able to help! We have started buying more ecologically friendly household products in bulk to cut down on waste packaging by re-using bottles. The bulk prices make the cost of the products affordable whilst sales raise funds to support local projects for a resilient Hemel.

How the re-fill scheme works: Bring along your empty bottles that you want re-filled to Green Drinks (7.30pm 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Steam Coach pub, Boxmoor) or other HiT events and your bottles will be returned refilled at the following event or a pre-arranged drop-off point. If you find it difficult to get to meetings, do contact us to arrange an alternative. For this to work you need to have a suitable spare empty 1litre, 500ml or 400ml bottle (dependent on product) to bring along.

We are working towards an ‘on the spot’ re-fill station possibly in a local shop or charity outlet in a convenient town-centre location – watch this space.
**At the Christmas Green Drinks, we will have some refills ready to exchange. **

Price list:
Ecover washing-up liquid: 1L-£1.80, 500ml-£1.00
Ecover all-purpose cleaner: 1L-£1.80
Ecover laundry liquid: 1L-£2.80
Ecover washing powder: 1kg-£3.50
Bio-D toilet cleaner: 1L-£1.80
Faith in Nature hair products: Lavender & Geranium shampoo/conditioner 400ml-£3.50

For further information about the re-fill scheme please email info@hemelintransition.org or phone Dorothy on 07976 311482.

One of the first things to recognise is the need to be positive in relation with others and other organisations. I particularly mean things like consistently being rude about organisations such as the local councils and demanding the moral high ground for yourselves. Changing hearts and minds is exceedingly difficult and needs a more inclusive and, dare I say it, humble approach. Other people's views may even be plain wrong, but they are dearly cherished by the holder.
